Sammie Donald Cornett

Mr. Sammie Donald Cornett, 58, of Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning, December 6, 2014, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Cornett was born November 2, 1956, in Surry County, one of seven children born to J. Gleason and Oleane Bunn Cornett. Sammie graduated from North Surry High School in 1974 and attended Surry Community College. He worked as an auto body repairman at Patterson Collison for many years and was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. He is survived by his mother, Oleane Bunn Cornett of Mount Airy; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Ray Dunbar and Pam and George Frye, all of Mount Airy, and Anita and John Lester of Pilot Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Rickey and Melinda Cornett of Dobson; and five loving nieces and three nephews. Mr. Cornett was preceded in death by his father, J. Gleason Cornett; a sister, Sylvia Dawn Cornett; and a brother, Ronnie Gleason Cornett. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fancy Gap Baptist Church, 1161 West Lebanon Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or a charity of the donor's choice.
