Mr. Samuel Edward Fain, 72, devoted husband of Mattie Lovagay Acosta-Fain, of Dobson, NC, passed away Monday July 31, 2006 at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in McDowell County W. Va. to the late Howard Bennett and Minnie Elizabeth Fain and attended Freedom Gospel Church. Mr. Fain was a Veteran of the US Navy, a former Eagle Scout, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 175. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of twenty one years; four daughters Samantha Dawn Fain of the home, Virginia Diane Fain Ratliff, Kimberly Lynn Fain Lester both of Paynesville, W.Va. and Crystal Denise Fain-Yount of Statesville, NC; three sons Joel Micah "Joe" Fain of the home, Michael Edward Fain of Roderfield, W.Va. and Samuel Kenneth Fain of Brushfork, W.Va.; a sister Jean "Rose Marie" Coleman of Dobson, NC; fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a special friend Harold Lane of Copeland, NC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fain was preceded in death by two sons Kirby Dean and Leonard Dwayne Fain; two sisters Hazel Riggs and Barbara Shoener; two brothers Roy and Robert Fain and two grandchildren Jeremy Fain and Mark Stone. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM Wednesday August 2, 2006 at Dobson Church of God with Rev. Randy Parrish and Rev. Homer Lowdermilk officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the hour of the service. His body will then be taken to Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger W.Va. where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM with Rev. Don Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Tom Sparks Cemetery in Paynesville W.Va. The family requests that memorials be made to The National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 708 Charlotte, NC 28210.
