Mr. Samuel Watson Lowe, 89, of Lowgap, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Lowe was born August 1, 1921, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Samuel Sanders and Mary Attice Dickens Lowe. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Lowe was a self-employed auto mechanic and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Verna Galyean Lowe of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Robby Wilson of Lowgap; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Lowe of Lowgap; two grandchildren, Larry Lowe and his wife, Audra, of Pilot Mountain, and Lori Wilson of Lowgap; two great-grandchildren, Sabra Lowe of Pilot Mountain and Samantha Lowe of Mount Airy; three step-great-grandchildren, Jacob Fregia, Josh Fregia, and Kole Pruitt, all of Pilot Mountain; a sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Curtis Bartley of Lowgap; and a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. J.V. and Mary Lowe of Dobson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by his step-mother, Tilda Lowe; a grandson, Jody Mitchell Wilson; three sisters, Ocie McBride, Peggy Hinshaw, and Lois Maxwell; five brothers, Cecil, Ander, Keith, Pete, and Alonza Lowe. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 8, 2011, at 4:00 PM at Mountain View Baptist Church, with the Rev. Russell Parsons and the Rev. Clyde Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full military rites conducted by VFW Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, May 8, 2011, from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the hospice home for the wonderful care Mr. Lowe was given during his stay.
