Sarah Elizabeth Atkins was granted her angel wings on Saturday evening, November 22, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, following a short illness. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some small way throughout her short, yet very memorable life. Sarah was born March 6, 2005, in Forsyth County, the only child born to Timothy Davis and Kathy Bullis Atkins. Sarah was a fourth grade student at White Plains Elementary School. She was an honor roll student, a member of the Elementary Battle of the Books team, and a member of the chorus. Sarah enjoyed participating as a cheerleader for the White Plains Raiders. Her beautiful smile always brightened a room and it could melt the hearts of those around her. Her laughter was contagious, and her friendship to fellow students possessed strength and perseverance. Sarah enjoyed sleeping late, music, reading stories, riding her bike, and spending time with her family and friends, and she loved the color purple. In addition to her loving parents, Sarah is survived by her maternal grandparents, Richard and Iola Hicks Bullis of Mount Airy; her paternal grandmother, Beulah Davis Atkins of Dobson; an adopted grandmother, "Aunt Nell" Lowe of Dobson; a special uncle and aunt, Bobby and Pam Cave of Dobson; and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Troy McKinley Atkins. A service of worship and celebration of Sarah's life will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family may also be contacted at the home of Sarah's maternal grandparents, Richard and Iola Hicks Bullis, 163 East Laurel Lane, Mount Airy (the Boxwood Estates community), Mount Airy. All attending the service is kindly encouraged to wear purple in memory of Sarah. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sarah Elizabeth Atkins Fund at White Plains Elementary School, 710 Cadle Ford Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. With Sarah's passing, we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss her every day, she will forever remain in our hearts.
