Shelby Jean Wood

Ms. Shelby Jean Wood, 83 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on Friday April 17, 2026. She was born July 25, 1942, in Surry County, the only child of Spencer “Spence” Riley Wood and Eva Della Childress Wood. She had the sweetest heart and never complained. Granny Shelby loved gardening, loved children, animals, and good food. Ms. Wood was very steadfast in her faith and was a member of the Methodist Community of believer’s. Left to cherish her precious memories are her special daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Rick Morin; special grandchildren and spouses, Brandie and Zach Slate, Aleicia and Kevin Wyrick, and Jackson and Isabelle Poteat; her special great grandchildren, Ava Slate, Ezra Slate, Asa Slate, Liam Wyrick, and Silas Wyrick; best friend and roommate, Brenda Edmonds, special friends, the Stanley family, Jada and the rest of the Twelve Oaks family; and many other family and friends. In addition to her parents, Ms. Wood was preceded in death by her special sister, Martha Jean Key. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 3:00pm in the Moody ~ Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Dobson with Brother Darren Slate officiating. Burial will follow in the Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 – 3:00pm at the funeral home. A very huge thank you to the staff at Twelve Oaks who went above and beyond, and to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care especially April Badgett for all of the love, care, and support shown to Shelby and the family.
