Mrs. Shelby Jean Shelton Laney, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 25, 2025, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Laney was born June 8, 1939, in Surry County, one of four children born to the late Ralph William “Pete” and Mildred Wagoner Shelton. Shelby grew up in the Franklin community of Mount Airy and graduated from Franklin High School in 1957. A cherished member of Twin City Bible Church, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She retired from a fulfilling career at Sara Lee, where she was known for her dedication, professionalism, and warm spirit. Outside of work, Shelby found great joy in tending to her yard and creating a peaceful haven full of life and color. She was also passionate about staying active – whether on the tennis court or in a yoga class, she embraced every opportunity to move with energy and grace. She is survived by a daughter, Shannon Potts; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Delia Laney; three grandchildren, Brennan Laney, Patrick Mock, II, and Briella Potts; three great-grandchildren, Skye, Radley, and Tatum; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosemary and Alton Jones and Diane Fox; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Laney was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Lamont Laney; a brother, Larry Shelton; and a special nephew, Vince Rogers. A graveside service will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Twin City Bible Church, 1337 Ebert Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
