Shirley Jeanette Goad Hazelwood

Mrs. Shirley Jeanette Goad Hazelwood, 83 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, April 5, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Carroll County, May 6, 1942, to the late Joel Howard Goad and Lois Alma Dalton Goad. She retired from Renfro Corporation after 25 years of dedicated service and was a Blessed Hope Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Richard Ables; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn Sheppard and Charlie; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hazelwood was preceded in death by her first husband, William Edward “Billy” Hazelwood; two sons, William Rodney Hazelwood and Ronnie “Peewee” Edward Hazelwood; great granddaughter, Jelina Ables; her second husband; James David “J. D.” Atkins; sister, Annie Earlene Jacobs; two brothers, Carlos Wayne Goad and Kenneth Goad; and brother-in-law, Bill Jacobs. Graveside services will be held at Old Pine Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday April 9, 2026, with Pastor Nolan Bentley and Brother John Ables officiating. The family will be gathering at the home of JC and Rhonda Galyean’s, 463 Lumber Plant Road, Lowgap, NC 27024. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
