Shirley Ore Keene

Mrs. Shirley Jean Margo Ore Keene, age 83 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Sovah Hospital of Martinsville. She was born in Patrick County on September 10, 1942 to the late James Marshall Ore and Pearlie Austin Ore. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Keene was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lee Keene; two brothers, James Albert Lee Ore and Donnie Dexter Ore; and two sisters, Caroline Ore Burchette and Jewel Ore Wilson. Her passion was being a seamstress. She was very talented in creating civil war era dress designs which were shared all over the United States. She had served as President of the J.E.B Stuart Birthplace Trust for many years and also volunteered at the Reynolds Homestead.

Mrs. Keene is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Lawrence and wife, Robbin, of Evington, Virginia; two granddaughters, Whitney Wagman (Brandon) and Courtney More (Hunter), all of Hurt, Virginia; four great-granddaughters, Peighton, Teagan, Callie and Aurora; one sister, Linda Conner (Wayne) of Martinsville; and a close friend, Pat Jones (Lloyd) of Stuart.

A memorial service for Mrs. Keene will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Dewayne Troutt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
