Shirley Lorraine McMillian Jones

Mrs. Shirley McMillian Jones, age 85, of Cana, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Jones was born on October 21, 1940 in Carroll County to the late Raymond and Franie Hawks McMillian.

Mrs. Jones was valedictorian of her graduating class at Lambsburg High School. She went on to graduate from Surry Community College, Boyce Bible College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Shirley loved to travel and explore God’s beautiful creation. Her first international trip was a mission trip to South Africa. She was a faithful member of Paul’s Creek Church where she served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher and founding church librarian. Shirley loved music, directing the church youth choir and singing in a ladies’ quartet for many years. She worked as a substitute teacher for Carroll County Schools and was also employed by the county government for twenty years. Later, she had her own tax and bookkeeping business. However, her most important work was as a wife, mother and homemaker. She deeply enjoyed being outdoors, taking great pride in the landscaping and gardening around their home.

 Shirley will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian Jones (Ginger), Brent Jones (Deana); grandchildren, Isaac Jones (Sara), Jana Jones; great-grandchildren, Jack and Carson Jones; sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn Jones (Clarence); Janice Crotts (Marlie) and Brenda (Dave) and brother and sister-in-law, Charles McMillian (Karen), along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton in January of this year as well as a daughter, Kim Jones, a granddaughter, Erica Jones, and a brother, Donald McMillian.

 A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Pauls Creek Church with Rev. Justin McCreary, Rev. Tony Holder, and Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Jones-King Cemetery in Cana, Virginia. The family will receive friends on from 12:00 PM-1:30 PM at the church, prior to the service.
