Mount Airy

Sidney Dan Ramsey, Sr.

Mr. Sidney “Sid” Dan Ramsey, Sr., age 86, of Mt. Airy, left his earthly home during the early hours of Wednesday, July 9, 2025 and moved into his heavenly mansion where he was greeted with open arms by the love of his life, Jean Ramsey. Sid was born on February 6, 1939 in Surry County to the late Henry Cleveland and Margaret Lee Barker Ramsey. Sid moved to Polkton, North Carolina with his family and grew up there working on his family’s cotton farm. Sid’s family returned to Mt. Airy in his early teens where he attended Mt. Airy High School. Sid began working in his sophomore year alongside his father learning and mastering his trade as a mechanic. As his family grew, Sid started driving trucks and worked for Fredrickson Trucking in Mt. Airy. During his career he also worked as a mechanic for Mt. Airy Oil, Regan Roofing Company, and was also self-employed at Sid’s Auto Repair. After his retirement he worked part time for Yveddi, Napa and Carquest. Sid enjoyed people and never met a stranger. Friends enjoyed his quick wit and considered him a “comedian” who always had a joke or a story to share about his mischievous younger years. Sid was an avid Nascar fan and was an all-time Dale Earnhart fan. Sid was a family man and always looked forward to camping with his friends and children. These trips usually included fishing, frog gigging, and hikes through nature. His favorite hobby outside camping was that of restoring old cars and recreating them into street rods. He and his wife Jean would enter these into car shows and they won several awards. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association in the early 1990’s. St. John Chapter 13:34 in the bible tell us: A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Sid lived his life by this commandment and exemplified it daily. Sid would tell everyone “I love you “and would either seal it with a kiss or a firm, good old-fashioned handshake at the end of a visit, and always “Holla if you need me”!! . Sid is survived by his daughter, Debbie Ramsey; sons, Doug Ramsey, Danny Ramsey Jr. (Barbara), David Ramsey (Tabitha); grandchildren, Josh, Jake, and Jenna Steele, Kristin Arnold (Elliot), Kelli Ramsey, Athena Baker (Duane)Brendan, Abby, Rebekah Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Kyra Steele, Rhett Steele, Lincoln Arnold, Aubree Baker, Mason Baker; sisters, twin sister Sylvia Zimmerman, Maudie Ramsey, and Portia Ramsey; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda Jean Byrd. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Rev. Scott Coleson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday Morning from 9:30 AM until the time for the service at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Sid’s longtime friends, Melvin Rodgers and Marty Collins, for always being there for him and adding sunshine to his life.
