Silas Junior Smith

Mr. Silas Junior Smith, age 90 of Mount Airy passed away Friday morning, August 29, 2025, at Surry Community Health Center by Harborview. Mr. Smith was born on January 14, 1935, in Surry County to the late Joe Sheridan and Nannie Bell Hall Smith. Silas proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Mr. Smith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving is his wife, Margaret Louise Jarvis Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa “Missi” Hodges and Tracy; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell Darren Smith and Cheryl; three grandchildren, Lathan Mabe and TylerAnne Funkhouser, Wesley Smith and Elizabeth, Ashley Smith and Koby Clark; great grandchildren, Mason Smith, Peyton Funkhouser, Millie Funkhouser; a sister, Clara Smith Berrier; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by four sisters, Carrie Beatrice Smith, Katherine B. Smith, Iris Elizabeth Smith, Phyllis Ruth Smith Tolbert; and two brothers, Hersel Granville Smith, and Calvin Joseph Smith. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Elder Jimmy Joyce officiating. Interment will follow in the Booker Busick Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until the time of the service.
