Spencer Gray Key Jr.

The Honorable Spencer Gray Key, Jr., 54, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was born in Forsyth County, NC, on February 1, 1967, to Spencer G. Key, Sr., and Shirley Tilley Key. Judge Key graduated from East Surry High School, serving as salutatorian of his class. He finished Wake Forest University with a degree in History and earned a Juris Doctorate degree at the University of North Carolina. Judge Key worked as a private practice attorney for two years and then served as an assistant district attorney from 1994 to 2000. Key was appointed to be a District Court Judge in 2000 by then-Governor Jim Hunt and served the people of Surry and Stokes County for the next two decades. Surviving is his wife, Erica, and his mother, Shirley. Judge Key was preceded in death by his father. All services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Tiny Tigers Rescue, PO Box 207, Toast, NC 27049.
