SSgt. Jeremiah Dakota Johnson, 28, of Lowgap, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, in the United Kingdom, England, while serving his country in the United States Air Force 100th Security Forces Squadron RAF, Mildenhall. Jeremiah was born January 29, 1992, in Surry County, to Bryan “B.J.” and Sandra P. Johnson. Jeremiah joined the Air Force in October 2013. He was excited about his career and proud to serve his country, re-enlisting in January 2020. He was a Defender, flight leader and mentor, and well-liked by everyone that met him, touching lives in such positive ways. Jeremiah always greeted you with his contagious smile, expressing the kindness and friendship he was happy to share. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Bryan “B.J.” and Sandra P. Johnson; his paternal grandparents, Andrew and Essie Johnson; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; the loves of his life, Ashley Danley and Delilah Danley; and his special friends, Lori, Tracer, Xander, and Nero. Jeremiah was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond B. Prater, Sr. and Maxine T. Prater; and his godmother, Lula Thompson. Friends are welcome to pay their respects to SSgt. Johnson at Mount Airy Church of God on Thursday, July 16, 2020, from 10:00 AM until 12 noon. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Powers and the Rev. Larry May officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Honor Guard. Additionally, anyone wishing to pay their respects to SSgt. Johnson may do so on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for anyone to make a generous donation to any veteran charity of their choice.
