Mr. Steven Dwayne Peal, age 59 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026, at SOVAH-Martinsville Hospital. He was born in Henry County on July 27, 1966. Mr. Peal was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Sue Rorrer Peal; his maternal grandparents, Harold O. Rorrer and Mozell Chaney Rorrer; his paternal grandparents, Howard Peal and Myrtle Guynn Peal; two aunts, Barbara R. Wood and Sissy Rorrer; and three uncles, Elwood Rorrer, Kenneth Peal, and Clifford Peal.

Mr. Peal was a 1984 graduate of Patrick County High School and a member of New Hope Church of the Brethren. He was adored as the first grandchild in the family and loved the Rorrer homeplace. He enjoyed men’s night out at the cabin and playing pool. Due to his love of helping others, he was very active with fire departments. He served for 20 years with the Woolwine Fire Department and the Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department, where he held the title of Fire Chief. He earned numerous awards during his years as a fireman, including the Fireman of the Year Award in 2025.

Mr. Peal is survived by his father, William Eldridge Peal; three aunts, Sue Carter, Verna Shepherd (Ernie), and Alma Dowell; an uncle, Larry Rorrer; several cousins; and his beloved dog, Tucker.

Funeral services for Mr. Peal will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope Church of the Brethren with Pastor Rick Randall officiating. Burial will follow in the Rorrer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
