Susan Thacker Arnold

Mrs. Susan Thacker Arnold, 72, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away early Monday morning, September 18, 2023, at Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Arnold was born August 6, 1951, in Surry County, the only child born to the late James Calvin and Nancy Jane Adams Thacker.  Susan was reared in Mount Airy and graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1969.  She worked in the accounting department for Davidson County Schools for many years and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.  She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sarah Scott Steytler and Elizabeth and Brian Norris; four grandchildren, Madison Qualkenbush, Jacob Qualkenbush, Lydia Norris, and Lauren Norris; her bonus daughter, Jennifer Yarborough and her husband, Jason; her bonus grandchildren, Alex Yarborough, Ethan Yarborough, and Seth Yarborough; a special cousin, Brant Adams; and a host of special friends.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Gene “Butch” Arnold; and a son-in-law, Warren Steytler.  A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with Chaplain Rick Charles officiating.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 2975 Crouse Lane, Burlington, NC  27215.
