Susan Romero Mulock

Susan Romero Mulock went to be with the Lord after a valiant 28 month-long battle against pancreatic cancer on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Susan was born on March 11, 1955 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Alfredo Romero and the late Maria Mercedes Toledo. Susan spent most of her life in Connecticut, graduating from Bassick High School, and later becoming a police officer for the Town of Fairfield, where she broke boundaries by being the first female Hispanic police officer to join the force. After a number of years and a career-ending injury she briefly relocated to California, where she met Alan Gary Mulock. They then moved to North Carolina, where she became fond of gardening in her yard, participating in church activities, and traveling to North Myrtle Beach and beyond. She was an avid collector of jewelry and perfume, a gifted accordionist and overall talented musician, and she loved hand-crafting cards and creating decorations for Christmas. She loved every moment she could spend with her kids in her later years as a stay-at-home mother.

Susan was diagnosed in March of 2023 with stage 2B pancreatic cancer. She underwent chemo, radiation, and surgery, and was declared cancer-free in March of 2024. The cancer returned and spread less than a year later and was deemed terminal due to its aggressiveness. She passed away peacefully at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, knowing just how deeply she will always be loved and cherished.

Susan was predeceased by her father, Alfredo, in 1960; her mother, Maria, in 2022; her niece, Jennifer, in 2022; and her brother, Cesar Romero, in 2024. She is survived by her husband - Alan Gary Mulock; her son and his family - Thomas Michael Drew and Esther, Violet, and Paxton; her daughter - Angel Livingston Phelps; six brothers and sisters - Alfred Romero Jr., Alex Romero, John B. Romero, Elizabeth Hauck, Madeline Twiss, and Diane Ramirez; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, a cause that is near and dear to the family’s heart.
