Sylvia Ann Simpson Atkins

Ms. Sylvia Ann Simpson Atkins, 82, of Mount Airy, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in King. Ms. Atkins was born January 2, 1933, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Mattie Johnson Simpson. She retired from Spencer's Inc. and later worked as a CNA for several years. She was a member of New Home Church of Christ. Her love, care, and concern for others was always profound, not only as a mother, but to her many friends, neighbors, and other family members through countless visits she made. Ms. Atkins is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Donna Atkins; several special nieces and nephews; and a friend that was as close as a sister, Lillian Willard. In addition to her parents, Ms. Atkins was preceded in death by four sisters, Ola Sprinkle, Carrie Atkins, Thelma Mabe, and Margie Bond; and four brothers, Calvin Simpson, Grady Simpson, Brady Simpson, and Cecil Simpson. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 22, 2015, at 3:00 PM at New Home Church of Christ, with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Amy Crittenden, Amanda Holt, and Tonya Marshall, for their love and support during this difficult time.
