Sylvia Vaughn Canaday

Mrs. Sylvia Vaughn Canaday, 78, of 216 Grace Street, Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 6, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Canaday was born March 27, 1934, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Porter Lee and Monnie Nester Vaughn. Sylvia was a restaurant owner and operator in Mount Airy and Sparta for many years. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Scott Sawyers and Cindy and Myron Vernon, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Janet Chilton of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Courtney Chilton, Josh Frye, Hunter Vernon, Grayson Vernon, Devin Sawyers, and Carson Sawyers; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Charles "Chuck" Kiger of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Canaday was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Dennis Canaday; and two brothers, Dillard Lee Vaughn and Jimmy Ray Vaughn. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 8, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Glenda Bramlet officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
