Terrence "Terry" Lee
Scruggs
Apr 28, 1943 — Jul 3, 2026
Mr. Terrence “Terry” Scruggs passed away Friday July 3rd at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC after a years-long battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1943 to the late Helen Jones Scruggs and Maylon Scruggs.
Terry was a graduate of Franklin County High School. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a machinist for DuPont. He loved the outdoors, and could be found fishing in his boat at Philpott Lake, hunting with his dear friends at the High Standard Hunting Club, and gardening. When not outdoors, he enjoyed spending time in his shop, building and repairing, or enjoying meals and music with his close friends. Even more so, he loved his grandchildren and great grandchild fiercely and could often be found supporting them at as many events as possible.
Terry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Darnell Scruggs. They were inseparable until his final breath. He is also survived by two sons and daughters in law; Brad and Taryn Scruggs of Stuart, and Randy and Jessica Scruggs of Christiansburg, and his grandchildren; Anna Kathryn and Hunter Cummings, Sophie Scruggs and Cole Scruggs; and one great grandchild Marley Joleigh Cummings. Also surviving are his siblings Arlene Scruggs Cardwell and John of Danville, VA and Lynn Scruggs and Ellen Duffy of Orangevale, California.
A memorial visitation for Mr. Scruggs will be held a later date. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, VA has been entrusted with the arrangements, and online condolences may be made by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
The family wishes to thank the Wake Forest Baptist Cancer Center Medical Oncology ICU unit for going above and beyond, the SECU family house, and Terry’s friends that have stepped in to help.
