Mrs. Thelma Gravley Cruise Connor, 87, of Mount Airy, went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 10, 2014. She was born September 6, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Ike and Pearl King Gravley. She was a graduate of Franklin High School and retired after 30 years of service from Hamilton Beach/Weaver Proctor-Silex Inc. Mrs. Connor was a charter member of Welcome Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk, sang in the choir, taught the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class, and was a member of the Golden Ladies Women's Missionary Union. She was an outbound/shut-in Sunday school teacher for many years and was also a Life Supporter of the Legacy Center. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Max Taylor of Pilot Mountain and Kaye and Richard Westmoreland of King; a daughter-in-law, Allyson Cruise of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Haley Sheets, E.J. Poore, Amanda Cruise, and Shane Cruise; four great-grandchildren, Cameron Sheets, Conner Sheets, Addison Poore, and Aiden Poore; a sister, Margie Johnson of Rock Hill, SC; a brother, Jim Gravley of Hickory; a special nephew, Chris Lewis; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Connor was preceded in death by her husbands, Floyd Calvin Cruise and Harold Dean Connor; a son, David Calvin Cruise; a brother, Jack Gravley; and three sisters, Mabel Lewis, Polly Gessley, and Gladys McHone. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy, with the Rev. Barry Clement, the Rev. Bailey Elmore, Chaplain Justin Nelson, and Brother Barry O'Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The family would like to thank the Acute Care Team of Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Sticht Center, Mountain Valley Hospice Comfort Team, Golden Living Physical Therapy Team, her church family, and all the Hunter Park neighbors. Words cannot express the family's gratitude for the love and care shown to Mrs. Connor by Judy, Shelley, Bonnie, Stacey, Allene, and Chris.
