Thelma Oiter Hawks Mabe

Mrs. Thelma Oiter Hawks Mabe, age 93, of Ararat, Virginia, passed away early Saturday morning, December 13, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Mabe was born in Patrick County on January 6, 1932, to the late John Patterson and Iva Sue Dishman Hawks. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Mabe was a longtime farmer and rode a four wheeler and tractor tending to her cattle until the age of 90. Left to cherish her memories are a daughter, Carolyn Mabe; son and daughter-in-law, Tim Mabe and Lisa; grandchild, Elizabeth Ann Mabe; niece, Linda Ledford and Gene. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mabe was preceded in death by her loving husband, Chester Mabe; sisters, Noraleta Kennedy, Lola Mabe. A funeral service for Mrs. Mabe will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy with the Rev. Ricky Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Doe Run Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 1:00 PM until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Mabe family.
