Thelma Blackburn Schumaker

Mrs. Thelma Blackburn Schumaker, 98, formerly of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 in Strasburg, VA. She was born in Surry County on April 20, 1917 to the late Harley and Charlotte Booker Blackburn. Mrs. Schumaker was a retired teacher and was of the Methodist Faith. She is survived by a son, Nyles Schumaker of Harrison, NY.; five grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Schumaker was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gregory Schumaker. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis "Bud" Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
