Mr. Theodore Culbert Guynn, 86, of Ararat, VA, passed away Monday morning, December 2, 2013, at his home. Mr. Guynn was born May 5, 1927, in Patrick County, VA, the son of the late George and Pearlie Martin Guynn. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. Mr. Guynn retired from the United States Postal Service after 43 years of service and was a member of the The Fellowship Church in Ararat, VA. Mr. Guynn was the last charter member of the Ararat Ruritan Club. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Bertie Hill Guynn of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Chris Markwith of Midlothian, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Teddy and Jami Guynn of Ararat, VA; two grandchildren, Kayla Markwith and Wyatt Markwith, both of Midlothian, VA; two stepgrandchildren, Brad Easter and Kandy Alvear, both of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, James Gray and Louise Guynn of Ararat, VA; and his extended family, Mack Stewart and Tom Perry, both of Ararat, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Guynn was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Weatherman; and a brother, George "Dick" Gwynn. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home; however, the family extends an invitation to all to come and visit with them at The Fellowship Church after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Fellowship Church, 5101 Ararat Highway, Ararat, VA 24053; or Ararat Rescue Squad, 4690 Ararat Highway, Ararat, VA 24053. His body will remain at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy until the time to be taken to the cemetery for the service.
