Mrs. Theresa Gale Rutherford Sechrist, 65, of Cana, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Sechrist was born on October 30, 1958, in Forsyth County, to the late William Vance Rutherford and Dorothy Duncan Rutherford Semones. Theresa was a faithful pastor’s wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church and faithfully attended while her health permitted. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Pastor Dwight Sechrist; two sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor Travis and Hope Sechrist and Pastor Joshua and Autumn Sechrist; five grandchildren, Colten Sechrist, Payten Sechrist, Sylas Sechrist, Addy Sechrist, and Maggy Sechrist; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Deloris and Kenneth Shumate and Lesa and Ronald Sizemore; a sister-in-law, Pam Rutherford; her stepmother, Phyllis Rutherford; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sechrist was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Rutherford; and her stepfather, Roger Semones. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Blues Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Dwight Sechrist, Pastor Travis Sechrist, Pastor Joshua Sechrist, and Pastor David Sechrist officiating. Interment will follow in New Life Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Blues Grove Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love and care shown to Mrs. Sechrist. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Life Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3080 Haystack Road, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
