Mr. Timothy Hughes Goins, 61, of Fancy Gap, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, July 10, 2025.
Tim was born August 27, 1963, in Forsyth County, the son of the late Carl Hughes Goins and Effie Bowman Goins Reavis. He grew up in the Flat Rock community and graduated from North Surry High School in 1981.
A gifted songwriter and talented bluegrass musician, Tim’s music took him across the globe. He began his musical journey with The Easter Brothers and went on to perform with renowned groups such as The Forbes Family and James King. His deep love for music was evident in every note he played and every song he wrote.
Tim was known not only for his musical talent but also for his quick wit and sense of humor. A natural jokester, he loved making others laugh and never missed a chance to pull a playful prank. His lighthearted spirit brought joy and laughter wherever he went.
Beyond music, Tim had many passions. He enjoyed cooking, decorating, and woodworking, especially chainsaw carvings, where his creativity truly came to life. He was a simple man who found joy in simple things, and his kind, gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Tim is survived by his wife, Brenda McDaniel Goins; his stepchildren, Jeremy Adkins (Tracie), Justin Stem (Rachel), and Jessical Plymal (Dewayne); four stepgrandchildren; and one great-stepgrandchild. He is also survived by his three sisters, Barbara Horton, Melody Marsh, and Darlene Vass (Jeff); several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him.
A graveside service to celebrate Tim’s life will be held Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Vass Cemetery, located at 985 Willow Shade Road in Hillsville, VA. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Darren Slate. No formal visitation will be held.

Tim’s music, craftsmanship, and love for life will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
