Mr. Tommy Allen Atkins, Sr., 55, of Lowgap, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. He was born on August 23, 1956 to the late Archie Allen and Virginia Mae Doss Atkins. Mr. Atkins was a self-employed truck driver and a Veteran of the United States Army having served our county during the Vietnam War. He leaves to cherish his memory, four children, Camillia Dawn Trent of Mount Airy, Miranda Lee Atkins of Lancaster, Ohio and Audrey Lynn Atkins of Logan, Ohio; a son, Tommy Allen "T.J." Atkins of Logan Ohio; four sisters, Vickie Baker Brown and husband Cecil of Lowgap, Kay Atkins Turman of Lowgap, Martha Musgrave and husband Bryan of Banner Elk and Donna and husband Jeff Swafford of the home; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three nephews, Jeremy Clay Baker, Max Ray Baker, Jr. and Gary Lee Wall. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at New Bethel Baptist Church in Dobson, by Pastor Gary Ehman and Mr. Robert Riggans with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service.
