Tommy World Boyd, Jr

Mr. Tommy World Boyd, Jr., 61, of 333 White Pines Country Club Road, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his home. Mr. Boyd was born June 25, 1953, in Forsyth County, the son of the late Tommy World Boyd, Sr. and Rosa Lee Gwyn Johnson. Tommy was formerly employed at H and W Trucking Company and was a member of the Christian faith. Above all, Tommy loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and canine companion, Marley. He is survived by his wife, Irene Horton Boyd of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Misty and Kevin Taylor and Wendy Boyd Venable, all of Mount Airy; a stepson and his wife, Willie and Christie Gwyn of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Colburn Gray Gwyn, Sydney Ann Gwyn, Camden Shea Taylor, Lacey Brooke Taylor, and Ethan Caleb Venable, all of Mount Airy; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nancy and Doug Harris, Tisha and Ricky Puckett, and Tammy Hawks, all of Mount Airy; a brother, Freddy Hawks of Mount Airy; his mother-in-law, Leavie G. Horton of Mount Airy; two brothers-in-law, Ellis B. Horton and his wife, Cathy, and Roy Horton, all of Mount Airy; a special aunt and uncle, Audene and Donnie Slate of Mount Airy; his best friends, Junior and Jeannie Utt of Mount Airy; and his canine companion, Marley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his stepfather, Kildee Hawks; a sister, Shelby Boyd Butcher; and a brother, Terry L. Boyd. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Shelton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Ted Turner and the Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
