Mr. Tommy Snow Wilmoth, 78, of White Plains, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2015, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born May 8, 1936, in Dobson, to the late Thomas Byrd and Stella Snow Wilmoth. He was one of 11 children. Tommy was married to his beloved wife, Barbara Bean Wilmoth, for 34 years. Tommy proudly served in the United States Army and the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1957. He worked at Patterson Buick for 25 years and owned and operated The Cupboard #2 general store for 24 years. He was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. Tommy was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and an awesome friend to many. He will be remembered by his indomitable spirit, his incredible heart of kindness, his nurturing soul, his countless words of wisdom, his fantastic stories, and his unique sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Kent, Bruce, Don Lee, and Alfred Wilmoth. Tommy “Poppy" is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Bean Wilmoth of the home; three loving daughters, Holly Covell of Bethania, Helen Schinkel (Steve) of Raleigh, and Libby Wilmoth (Myles) of Dobson; his stepchildren, Mark O'Neal (Sharon) of Mount Airy, Greg O'Neal (Yvonne) of Dobson, and Teresa Smith (Barry) of White Plains; his grandchildren, Jennifer Simmons, Amber Flippen, Chase O'Neal, Zach O'Neal, Clement Norman, Christina Phillips, Beverly Sawyers, Ethan Wilmoth, Aaron Covell, Marlee Wilmoth, and Spencer Schinkel; his great-grandchildren, Zane, Brady, and Dyami Simmons, Anna and Connor Tommy Flippen, Adilynn Phillips, and Danielle Kaye Sawyers; his siblings, Spencer Wilmoth (Maria) of Greensboro, Wayne Wilmoth (Edna) of Dobson, Reva McDevitt of Dobson, Michael “Pete" Wilmoth (Imogene) of Dobson, Catherine Current (Jim) of Dobson, and Carolyn Flippin of Pilot Mountain; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Caligan. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Jake Penley and the Rev. Jacob Flippen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tommy be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
