Mrs. Treva Faye Sumner Haynes, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Friday night, July 11, 2025, at Holy Family Senior Living in Bethlehem, PA. Mrs. Haynes was born September 13, 1938, in Surry County, one of four children born to the late John Woodrow and Orpie Irene Cruise Sumner.
Treva faithfully served the Mount Airy community as a master seamstress, known for her skill and dedication. She was passionate about local history and volunteered as a docent at The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History, where she enjoyed sharing the stories and heritage of her beloved hometown. Professionally, she worked for many years at Quality Mills, which later became Cross Creek Apparel and then Russell Athletics, serving as a corporate trainer, mentoring countless employees through the years.
A devoted member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, Treva served on various church committees, including the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), and participated in numerous mission trips. She also extended her service beyond the local congregation by serving on the WMU state board.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Richard Borovies of Bethlehem, PA; a granddaughter, Amanda Borovies of Bethlehem, PA; a sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Kelly Vipperman of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Veronica Sumner of Portsmouth, VA; and several nieces and nephews, Susan Balabuck of Marina del Rey, CA, Bill Simmons of Cumming, GA, Brian Sumner of Raleigh, Chris Sumner of Wilmington, Eric Sumner of Philadelphia, PA, and Tiffany Sumner of Seattle, WA.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her husband, William Clifton “Tony” Haynes; and two brothers, Howard Kyle “Buddy” Sumner and John W. Sumner.
The funeral service will be held Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Minix officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Haymore Memorial Baptist Church Missions Fund, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dave Heintzelman of Heintzelman Funeral Home in Hellertown, PA, for his compassion and care in escorting Treva home. His kindness and unwavering support during this difficult time will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
