Mr. Troy Rudolph Shelton, 78, of 104 Rolling Stone Trail, Lowgap, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 26, 2012, from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born June 21, 1933, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Harley Lee and Alverta Semones Shelton. He was an entrepreneur for most of his life and enjoyed working as a building contractor, auto mechanic, garage owner, and in his later years as a flea market owner. Troy enjoyed spending time with his family camping and traveling. Troy always stood out in a crowd but never above anyone, willing to go out of his way to help someone and never asking for anything in return. Surviving are his loving partner of 29 years, Kay Goins of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Regina S. and John R. Wright of Pfafftown, Ramona and Richard Carr of Galax, VA, and Amanda and Chris Unkart of MD; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy R. and Regina Shelton of Los Angeles, CA; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; Kays children, Kristie Lowe, Denise Goins, James Goins, and Ronald Goins; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor Shelton and Wilford "Buster" Shelton; and two sisters, Oneva Shelton Weddle and Verlie Shelton Willard. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 7:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. J.B. Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 PM until time of the service at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and to the staff of Golden Living Center for their care given to Mr. Shelton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
