Vernie Elmer "Poppy" Barr

Mr. Vernie Elmer "Poppy" Barr, 76, of 65 Barr Lane, Hillsville, VA, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Barr was born December 18, 1931, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Elmer Johnson and Fannie Etta Quesinberry Barr. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Oshea Barr of the home; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gaynell and Alfred Thompson of Hillsville, VA, Bula and Hurley Hawks of Galax, VA, and Margaret Bowman of Ararat, VA; a brother, Rudolph Barr of Galax, VA; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Reeves Barr of Hillsville, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barr was preceded in death by a sister and eight brothers. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Bluemont Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with services conducted by the Rev. Terry McMillian. The family will receive friends Tuesday night 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
