Vestal Hollingsworth Hardy, Jr

Mr. Vestal Hollingsworth Hardy, Jr., 62, of 1402 McKinney Road, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 4, 2015, at his home. Mr. Hardy was born May 22, 1953, in Wythe County, VA, the son of the late Vestal Hollingsworth Hardy, Sr. and Frances Marie Manahan Hardy. Vestal owned and operated Hardy's Underground for many years. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elaine Allen Hardy of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Adina and Ricky Hawks of Mount Airy; two sons, Travis Dwayne Hardy and Alex Justin "A.J." Hardy, both of Mount Airy; a stepgranddaughter, Morgan Nichole Hawks; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ocie Rene Vannieuwkoop of Mount Airy, Jacqueline and Gilbert Brown of Pinehurst, and Shelby and Winfrey Boyd of Jefferson; a brother, Daniel Grey Hardy of Mount Airy; a special great nephew, Vestal Levi Edwards; and special friends and neighbors, Lindsey and Mindy Tate. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by an infant brother; infant twin siblings; two sisters, Rachel Louise Tesh and Betty Hardy; and a brother, Dock Henry Hardy. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Craig Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
