Virginia Irene Reynolds Hayden Hopkins

On June 19, 2015 God called home one of his most faithful servants, Virginia Irene Reynolds Hayden Hopkins at the age of 85. She was born December 17, 1929 in Patrick County, Virginia to the late John Edgar and Bessie Light Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wilburn Hayden; her daughter, Donna Jo Hayden Pearson and two brothers, John Melvin and Robert (Bobby) Reynolds. She was a 1947 graduate of Stuart High School and a 1951 graduate of Martin Memorial School of Nursing in Mt. Airy, NC. In 1960 she and George moved to Multnomah County, Oregon, where she raised her family and worked at Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Portland. In 1980 she returned to her Patrick County roots to live in a log cabin built by George on her grandparents' home place. She then worked and retired from R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital in 1992. In 1994 she met and married a high school classmate, James Hopkins. She truly enjoyed researching genealogy, listening to old time music, collecting antique glassware, and most of all telling people about Jesus. She never met a stranger and would help anyone.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, James W. Hopkins of the home; one daughter, Dianne M. Scott and Brad of Corbett, Oregon; one son, Mark T. Hayden and Dorothy of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren, April and Eric Eaton, Kristen and Troy Goldsworthy, Shawn Hayden, and Tanya Hayden and Josh Hergert; seven great grandchildren, all of Oregon; four stepchildren, Janet and Buck Caldwell, Randy and Shari Hopkins, John and Carrie Hopkins, and Steve Hopkins; several step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren; several sisters and brothers in-laws, many nieces and nephews; a host of friends and two aunts, Helen Light and Grace Turner, who was as close as a Mom.

A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell and Rev. Jim Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
