Virginia Parabelle Shelton Hiatt

Mrs. Virginia Parabelle Shelton Hiatt, age 99, of Mount Airy, passed peacefully on July 6, 2026. She was born in Surry County, November 2, 1926, to the late Ramey and Clennie Rakes Shelton. Mrs. Hiatt was retired from Hospital Flower Shop and a member of the Shelton Church of the Brethren. She was loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surviving is her daughter Donna Hiatt (Roger Frechette), sons, Wendell Leon Hiatt, Jr., Mike Hiatt (Linda); grandchildren, Leon Hiatt III (Joy), Wendi Bennett (Les),Kristi Whichard (Jonathan), Kandis George; 12 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Shelton Arrington (Harvey), Betty Shelton Hall (Mickey), Dorothy Baynes (Don). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Leon Hiatt Sr.; sisters, Frances Shelton, Annie Belton, Ruth Etta Mills; brothers, Roy Shelton, Paul Shelton, Charles Shelton, Russell Shelton, Don Shelton, Buddy Shelton, Wade Shelton. A graveside service will be held on Friday July 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at Skyline Memory Gardens with Rev. Kristi Hiatt Whichard and Rev. Jim Richland officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice P.O. Box 325 Dobson, NC 27017 or to Joy Ranch a Christian Home for Children, P.O. Box 727 Hillsville, VA 24343.
