Mrs. Virginia Dare Wall Simmons, age 97, of Mount Airy, passed away early Friday morning, April 25, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. Mrs. Simmons was born in Stokes County on February 8, 1928, to the late William Henry Wall and Stella Mae Knight Wall. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she’ll be deeply missed by all who knew her. She started her career by graduating from Martin Memorial Nursing School, beginning her work with local doctor offices in Mount Airy, were she eventually worked at Northern Hospital as an RN in the emergency room until her retirement in 1990. Mrs. Simmons is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Williams and Richard; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Simmons and Cathy; grandchildren, Travis Marshall, Jennifer Aparicio, Tyler Simmons and Reba, Jonathan Simmons and Tessa Greedy; bonus granddaughters, Kandice Williams, Katy Hodges and Brad; great grandchildren, Jordan, Isabella and Boone Aparicio, Emma Marshall; bonus great grandchildren, Jackson Dunning and Xander Hodges; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Miller and Dwight; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne Wall and Brenda; sisters-in-law, Frances Peacock, Hilda Harbour; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eugene Simmons and Betty, Dr. Dean Simmons and Carole; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Wayne Simmons; brothers, James Wall and Carl Wall. A celebration of Mrs. Simmons life will be held Monday, April 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with Mr. Richard Williams officiating. A burial will follow at White Plains Friends Meeting Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. The family would like to extend there sincere thanks to the special care givers Deborah Creed, Dixie Atkins, Cindy McCormick, Delma Bryant, Kari Jessup, Betty Freeman, Leslie Stanley, Michelle Hill, Jennifer Aparicio that took care of mom the last 6 years. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Simmons family.
