Obituary

Mrs. Vivian Kay Reid Spell, age 80 of Mount Airy entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Spell was born on September 28, 1945, in Guilford County to the late Edgar James and Treva Melrose Galyean Reid. Vivian was a loving mother, step-grandmother, step great-grandchildren, sister, and friend. She was a faithful member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church while her health allowed. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Shannon Reid Spell and Annette, two step grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spell was preceded in death by her brother, Randall Reid. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Lowgap with Reverend Bill Spurlin, Reverend Arlis Thomas, and Brother Butch Spurlin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, June 23, 2026, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Chatham Nursing for the compassionate care provided to Mrs. Spell during her illness. The family would also like to thank Mount Vernon Baptist Church for all they have done for the family during the loss of Vivian. Moody Funeral services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
