Mr. Wade Guy Johnson, 93, of Mt. Airy, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County, January 29, 1929, to the late John Frank and Olevia Hemmings Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a well-known farmer throughout the community, working in tobacco and livestock. Mr. Johnson worked the livestock market for many years. Mr. Johnson was a faithful member and deacon of Community Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Lou Sykes Johnson; his children and spouses, Gary and Ann Johnson, Sherry Coston, Karen Johnson Stewart, and Junior and Tammy Johnson; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Rayburn Sykes, Kathleen and Alex Hege, brothers, and sisters-in-law, Billy and Rita Johnson, Jimmy and Nelda Johnson, Joann Johnson, Bessie Johnson, and Andrea Johnson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a grandson, Bo Hutchens; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera and Chester Mosley, Georgia and Aubrey Mosley, Dorothy and Bobby Riggs, Foye and Birchard Younger; brothers and a sister-in-law, Greer, Paul, Bernie, and Otis and Shirley Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Community Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Quesinberry and Bro. Sammy Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM where his body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or monetary contributions may be made to Brooke Johnson for her liver transplant fund, c/o Junior Johnson, 114 Reid Flippen Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to his daughter, Karen for the care given to Mr. Johnson during his illness.
