Mr. Wallace Wade Utt, age 79, of Cana, Virginia passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC, following his short illness. Known for his love of laughter and joke telling, Wallace brought smiles wherever he went. Next to his love for God, family and friends, he was a sports enthusiast cheering on his Dodgers, Tarheels, Redskins (the name he refused to give up) and his favorite NASCAR drivers.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife and constant companion of forty-three and a half years, Movita Boyd Utt, one son, Brandon Wade Utt and wife Charlotte, and the brightest star in his eyes, granddaughter, Kaylee Lynn Utt. Wallace had many wonderful nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and a special “adopted” son, Jeff Lindsay, who was loved beyond words.
A graduate of Mount Airy High School where he played baseball and ran track, Wallace joined the Army Reserves serving until medically discharged. He worked in a variety of roles throughout the years including operating his own tire shop. He was a member of New Charity Baptist Church in Mount Airy, NC, where he built many wonderful and treasured relationships.
Wallace was preceded in death by his father, George Burton Utt, mother Hattie McMillian Utt, brothers, Leonard, Jim, Edsel, Lonnie and Vernon Utt, as well as sisters Vergie Hiatt and Ola Haynes. He was also preceded in death by other precious family members including in laws, nieces and nephews and a precious baby he and his wife never got to hold.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at New Charity Baptist Church, 232 White Pines Country Club Road, Mount Airy, NC, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, with Pastor Hank Robertson officiating, with the family receiving friends from 12:30 until 2:00 at the church. A private, family graveside service will follow on the family land in Ararat, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests that any donations can be made in Wallace’s honor to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, P.O. Box 326, Dobson, NC 27017.
Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
