Walter William Barr

Mr. Walter William Barr, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, April 21, 2015, at Dunmore Plantation in Dobson. Mr. Barr was born February 11, 1946, in Virginia, one of ten children born to the late Floyd and Emily Barr. He was formerly employed at Pine State Knitwear and a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Ruth and Ricky VanHoy of Jonesville and Gail Hembree of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Jake Hembree, Timothy VanHoy, Mark VanHoy, Amber Barr, and Auston Barr; a great-grandchild, Kylah Hembree; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Lou and Allyn Sapp, Nancy and Charlie Crotts, and Iona and Andy Bostic, all of Mount Airy, and Mary Jane and Ronnie Holt of Pinnacle; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ellen Barr of Cana, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barr was preceded in death by his wife, Mareather Susan "Penny" Ayers Barr; three sisters, Ida Quesinberry, Mary Katherine Barr, and Helen Gwynn; and a brother, John Barr. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
