Wayne Jackson Smith

Mr. Wayne Jackson Smith, 78, of 236 Orchard Street, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2014, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Smith was born May 9, 1936, in Henry County, VA, to James Council and Dorothy Ruth Scales Smith. Jack served our country in the United States Army in the mid-1950s and later retired as a truck driver from Pike Electric Inc. He is survived by his wife, Carole Lee Carter Smith of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Christi Janine and Travis Layne Stevens of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, James William and Ginger Smith of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren, Kaila Marie Lupinacci, Ashley Nicole Dunning, Steven Jeremiah Collins, Joshua Aaron Collins, Jacob Cody Smith, Samantha Nicole Stewart, Jackson Carter Stevens, Matthew Joel Stevens, and Daniel Luke Stevens; two great-grandchildren, Juliana Lynette Lupinacci and Zoe Olivia Dunning; and his mother, Dorothy Ruth Scales Smith of Mount Airy. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Lynette Collins; his father, James Council Smith; and a brother, William Robert Smith. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron, the Rev. Alex L. Martin, and the Rev. Raleigh Burnett officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
