Lane was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Lane Hawks, Sr. and Freda Mae Hiatt Hawks.
Lane dedicated many years of service to the state of North Carolina, beginning his career with the DMV in 1987 and later serving with the Highway Patrol until his retirement in 2006. He carried himself with integrity and a strong sense of duty, earning the respect of those he worked alongside.
Outside of his work, Lane found great joy on the golf course. As a member of Mount Airy Country Club for over 40 years, he built lasting friendships and created countless memories doing what he loved. He was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church.
Above all, Lane will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His steady presence, love, and guidance will continue to live on through his family.
