Wiley Jackson Lawson, Jr.

Mr. Wiley Jackson Lawson, Jr., age 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, July 5, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Lawson was born in Surry County, on March 20, 1947, to the late Wiley Jacosn Lawson Sr, and Della Mae Martin Lawson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Lawson was a man of many traits, whether he was working at RJ Reynolds, or building gazebos for Leonard’s. He was known for his strong work ethics, that he stood firm on. Left to cherish his memories are his loving children, Charlotte Greene, Anthony Lawson and Becky; grandchildren, Adreanna Montgomery, Christa Proffitt; great grandchildren, Raygan Montgomery, Paiytin Willard, Ashlynn Willard, Lexi Proffitt, Dakota Proffitt, and Mavis Proffitt; brother and sisters-in-law, Thomas Keith Lawson and Bonnie, Alice Tate, Mary Lawson; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by his loving wife, Thelma Lawson; great grandson, Joshua Montgomery; brothers, Billy Ray Lawson, Phillip James Lawson. A celebration of Mr. Lawson’s life will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Steven Hamm officiating. Burial will follow at the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 10:00 AM until time of the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Lawson family.
