William “Bub” Ayers Beloved Husband, Son, Brother, Friend It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bub” Ayers, who left us peacefully on June 17, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was 77 years old. Born July 3, 1947 in Cana, Virginia, Bub brought joy, laughter, and a deep sense of loyalty to everyone who knew him. Known for his generous spirit, quiet strength, and unforgettable sense of humor, Bub was someone who made people feel at home simply by being himself. Whether he was sharing stories or offering a helping hand, Bub lived his life with integrity and compassion. He was deeply connected to his family and community, and his presence was a steady source of strength and support. Bub was a graduate of Mt. Airy High School, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and a dedicated employee of Surry-Yadkin Electric for over 30 years. He is survived by his brother Don Ayers (Phyllis), his niece Candace Ayers (Jake), his nephews Brock Lamont (Angie), Giles Lamont (Nancy) and countless other family and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. The family would like to thank Bub’s caregivers along with the Mountain Valley Hospice Home. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth, father Byrum, his wife Alice, his sister Carole and his brother-in-law Nigel. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Mount Bethel Moravian Church in Cana, VA. Then a Celebration of Bub’s life will be held at 5:00 PM at Rachel's Place 289 Jones Chapel Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030 where family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the life of a truly special man. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mt. Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Bonnie Ayers, 2119 Wards Gap Rd., Cana, VA 24317 in Bub’s memory. Bub’s kindness, warmth, and generosity he gave so freely will never be forgotten. His was a life well lived – and well loved.
