William Blake Matthews

William Blake Matthews, age 39, of Mt Airy NC passed away on Monday morning, January 29, 2024, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center after a sudden and brief illness. Blake was born January 23, 1985, to the late William “Alan” Matthews & Pamela Jones Matthews. He graduated from North Surry High School in 2003. He was employed by Shell Rapid Lube for 16 years.  In addition to his mother, left to cherish Blake’s memory are uncles & aunts; Bobby Darrell & Donna Matthews, Kathy & Junior McRoberts, Mike & Vicky Matthews, and Debbie & Larry Thomas, special great-aunt; Daisy Edwards, special great-uncle; Howard “Red” Edwards, along with several cousins and many, many friends.  He was predeceased by grandparents; Bobby Joe Matthews, Gladys Collins Matthews, Dwight Audie Jones, and Barbara Edwards Jones; and great-grandmother; Rhodie Edwards, special great-uncle; James Edwards, and special great-aunt; Dot Edwards.  Blake will forever be remembered as a gentle giant, a man of few but sincere words, and a loyal friend to all.  A memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 125 Faith Baptist Church Road Mt Airy, NC on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 2pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Kicker’s Bar & Grill, 2767 Park Drive Mt Airy, NC on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 1pm.
