Mr. William Abner "Bill" Gwynn, 72, of 7495 Wards Gap Road, Cana, VA, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2013, at his home. Mr. Gwynn was born February 7, 1941, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late Andrew Franklin and Letha Jane Hiatt Gwynn. He retired as a quality control supervisor from Bassett Furniture and was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cana, VA. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Shawn Arnder of Seymour, TN; two grandchildren, Taylor Arnder and Noah Arnder, both of Seymour, TN; six sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Allen and Margaret Coalson, both of Ararat, VA, Elsie Hiatt and Julia Barr, both of Cana, VA, Mamie and Clarence Smith and Ruth Corn, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Dorothy Gwynn of Cana, VA; several nieces and nephews; a special friend and companion, Dorothy Hiatt Wall of Cana, VA; and a special friend, Clayton McMillian of Ararat, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gwynn was preceded in death by a brother, James Gwynn. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Isreal Gwyn and Rev. Terry McMillian officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. His body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior the funeral service at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Gwynn family.
