Lt. William York Poole, 73, of 1261 Beulah Church Road, Lowgap, passed away Friday afternoon, April 24, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Lt. Poole was born February 26, 1942, in Durham County, one of two children born to the late Charles and Eloise Congleton Poole. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Crisis and served 31 years in law enforcement, retiring in 1994 from Durham County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Marie Murphy Poole of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela P. and Bill Porter of Elon; a son, Christopher York Poole of Durham; a stepdaughter and her husband, Angela W. and Glenn Whittington of Midway; two stepsons and their wives, Dennis and Lisa Watson of Concord and Brad and Anna Watson of Pilot Mountain; seven grandchildren, Erica Whittington, Keith Poole, Ashley Bodenheimer, Cameron Watson, Baelin Watson, Madison Porter, and Colton Poole; three great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Marilyn Poole of Durham. In addition to his parents, Lt. Poole was preceded in death by a son, William York Poole, II. A service of worship and celebration of William's life will be held Monday, April 27, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dorothy L. Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
