William Neil Utt

Mr. William Neil Utt, age 72, of Mount Airy, passed away at his residence on Friday morning, August 1, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Mr. Utt was born in Surry County on March 19, 1953, to the late James William Utt and Rachel Vaughn Utt. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Utt was a graduate of North Surry High School of 1972, proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and drove for Allied Systems Incorporated until his retirement. Neil loved his family and friends deeply, he never met a stranger and enjoyed having conversations with everyone. If you ever needed a helping hand, he would lend you his. He enjoyed going to old classic car shows where you would see him driving his bright orange 57’ Ford truck or his 56’ Chevrolet wagon. He made lots of wonderful memories with all of his car show buddies, especially Earnie Johnson and Ricky Utt. Mr. Utt is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Jackie Haynes Utt; daughter and son-in-law, Neely Morris and Rob; son and daughter-in-law, Chris Cooke and Misty; grandchildren, Chainey Cooke and Schae, Ellik Ragland, Keylee Chilton and Colby, Zach Williard, Cannon Cooke, Jaden Ferguson and Buddy, Jacob Morris, and Jackson Morris; great-grandchildren, Lila Ferguson, Kane Chilton, Case Cooke, Remi Chilton, Caden Cooke, Emmy Chilton, Ellie Cooke; sister, Teresa Utt Akers. In addition to his parents, Mr. Utt was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Emma Haynes and Tom; brother-in-law, Donald Akers. A graveside service for Mr. Utt will be held Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Midway Baptist Church at 4:00 PM with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Per Neil’s request, there will not be any formal visitation. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Utt family.
