Obituary

Woltz “Gray” Atkins, 86, of Dobson, North Carolina peacefully went to be with his Lord and Saviour, with his family by his side, Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after a short illness. Born July 20, 1940, in Surry County to the late Robert Woltz and Vena Lowe Atkins. A devoted Christian, Gray lived his life with a humble heart, a servant’s spirit, and an unwavering faith in the Lord. He was a proud Army veteran, an avid fisherman, and a loyal Los Angeles Dodger fan. Gray was a talented carpenter, who used the talents God gifted him to help build several well-known local establishments, including Cedar Ridge Elementary School, Meadowview Middle School, Ridgecrest, and Delp Chiropractic, as well as numerous projects throughout the state. Though his craftsmanship left a lasting mark on the community, it was his faith in Christ, and the quiet humble way he lived his life that truly defined him. Above all, he was a loving family man whose greatest legacy will be measured by the faith he lived, the love he gave, and the lives he touched. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter and son-in-law, Kim Atkins-Bruner and Benny; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Gray Atkins and Nicole; grandchildren, Emily Grace Bruner, Graylyn Harper Atkins, and Andrea Paige Sizemore; sisters, Faye Goings, and Mary Ann Atkins; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Joe Atkins and Lonette, and Podge Atkins and Linda; as well as numerous special nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Galyean Atkins; grandson, Martin Brady Sizemore; brothers, Larry Wayne Atkins, Bobby Dean Atkins, and Jimmy Cleve “Casey” Atkins; nephew, Butch Goings; and brother-in-law, Bill Goings. The family will receive friends Monday, October 19, 2026, from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buster Sechriest, Rev. Joe Atkins, and Rev. Kenneth Jessup officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brady Sizemore Memorial Foundation at 416 Branch Drive, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson, NC is respectfully serving the Atkins family.
