Mr. Woodrow Jackson, 74, of 137 Booker Street, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday evening, June 15, 2011, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. Mr. Jackson was born June 22, 1936, in Surry County, son of the Rev. Joseph T. and Maggie Williams Jackson. Woodrow retired as a printer at The King Times-News. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Nelda Joy Vernon Jackson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Randall Carlisle of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kym Woodson and Cindy Jackson of Cana, VA, and Kraig Stephen Jackson of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Seth Woodson Jackson, Erica Lynn Carlisle, Kelsey Jackson Carlisle, and Christopher Tyldon Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Joseph T. and Maggie Williams Jackson; and a brother, Edward Lee Jackson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Steve B. Lindsley and the Rev. Grover Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
