Yvonne Boyd Smith

Mrs. Yvonne Boyd Smith, 84, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, September 8, 2025, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born December 19, 1940, in Patrick County, VA, one of nine children born to the late Admiral Dewey and Bessie Terry Boyd. Yvonne grew up in Ararat, VA, and graduated from Blue Ridge High School in 1959. She worked for many years as a lab technician, retiring from Clinipad Corporation. Yvonne loved her family fiercely and cherished every moment spent with them. She also enjoyed playing golf, especially with the Saturday Morning Golf Group, where she made many lasting friendships. Yvonne lived out her faith as a devoted member of First United Methodist Church-Common Ground. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bradley Kirk Smith and LTC (Ret) Dwayne Richard and April Smith; two grandchildren, Jeremy Andrew Smith and Ava Hope Smith; a great-grandson, Michael Andrew Smith; a sister, Margaret Boyd; a brother-in-law, Charlie Kiger; a sister-in-law, Margaret Davis; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richard Smith; a grandson, Bryan Christopher Smith; three sisters, Velma Harris, Jenny Kiger, and Charlotte Jones; and four brothers, Bill Boyd, Johnny Boyd, Frank Boyd, and Charles Boyd. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with LTC (Ret) Dwayne Richard Smith and Pastor Johnny Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
